Xanterra, RoomOne partner for PTAC recycling initiative at Arizona resorts

Hospitality operator Xanterra Travel Collection has partnered with RoomOne to complete a large-scale PTAC recycling initiative at the Grand Canyon Railway & Hotel and The Grand Hotel in Williams, Ariz.

Through the collaboration, 112 used PTAC (packaged terminal air conditioner) units were removed and recycled in support of Xanterra’s ongoing mission to reduce waste and minimize environmental impact across its operations.

This project was coordinated between RoomOne and Xanterras’ facilities management and sustainability teams. RoomOne’s zero-cost, turn-key PTAC recycling service aims to make the process seamless—handling logistics, freight and environmentally responsible processing of the units, according to the company. The program is designed to ensure all refrigerants, metals and components are safely reclaimed or recycled in accordance with federal and environmental standards.

“Partnerships like this allow us to make meaningful progress on our waste-reduction goals while also streamlining operations,” Roy Weedman, sustainability director, Xanterra, said in a statement. “RoomOne’s service directly supports our corporate target of reducing landfill waste by 5 percent annually and their logistics support ensured minimal disruption to our faciltiies management team.”

Xanterra corporate sustainability framework includes six major goals: achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050; reducing water usage in stressed areas, eliminating single-use plastics by 2030, and increasing sustainable sourcing.

According to Xanterra, further recycling projects are already in the planning stage for 2026 and 2027. The company’s recent project with RoomOne directly contributes to its waste diversion and emissions mitigation efforts.

“We’re excited to support a company like Xanterra, whose commitment to long-term sustainability is woven into everything they do. I was able to see this first-hand through this initial 112 PTAC recycling project,” Owen Finch, sourcing account executive at RoomOne, said in a statement. “This number of units presents a significant amount of waste, and we diverted all of it from landfills through a little bit of teamwork. Kudos to Xanterra for doing the right thing.”
