Hilton debuts first Spark hotel in the Caribbean, Latin America

Hilton has opened the first Spark by Hilton in Puerto Rico, marking the premium economy brand’s entry into the Caribbean and Latin America.

The new 120-room Spark by Hilton Ponce in Puerto Rico is owned by Ponce Resorts Inc. and managed by HI Development P.R. Corp. Located in the island’s second-largest city, the Ponce property features modern Spanish-inspired architecture, a central courtyard and a lobby designed with a mix of communal seating and individual workspaces. The hotel is three miles from Mercedita International Airport and just off Highway 52.

“We are thrilled to welcome guests to Spark by Hilton Ponce, the first Spark by Hilton in the Caribbean and Latin America,” Maxime Verstraete, vice president, brand management, Caribbean and Latin America, Hilton, said in a statement. “This milestone marks an exciting chapter in the expansion of Hilton’s brands in the region, as we continue to meet the evolving needs of today’s travelers by offering more choices across our portfolio.”

“The members of our team are extremely excited as we open our Spark by Hilton, bringing the premium economy brand to the Ponce tourism market,” said Miguel Vega, president of HI Development P.R. Corp. “The hotel adds diversity to the southern region and confirms our commitment of over 50 years contributing to the tourism development in the city of Ponce and Puerto Rico.”

The hotel has an outdoor pool, fitness center and 1,600 square feet of event space accommodating up to 120 people.

Hilton launched Spark two years ago and has grown the brand to more than 200 open hotels worldwide, with another 190 in the pipeline. Spark by Hilton Ponce joins a Hilton portfolio of more than 10 operating hotels in Puerto Rico, where the company has stated plans to double its presence over the next four years.
