Kimpton to open new Park Avenue hotel in historic NYC building

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle portfolio, is poised to open a new Manhattan property in January on New York City's Park Avenue.

Following a full-scale renovation and redesign, the Kimpton Ashbel New York-Park Avenue will occupy a 1928 Beaux-Arts building originally developed as the Doral Park Avenue Hotel. Located near Grand Central Terminal, the 205-room hotel—including 14 connecting rooms for families—marks Kimpton’s latest addition to its New York City portfolio, which includes Kimpton Hotel Eventi.

“Our vision for Kimpton Ashbel was to create a beautifully curated home in the heart of Manhattan—sophisticated and timeless, inviting and warm,” Brenda Correa, general manager of Kimpton Ashbel, said in a statement. “Guests can savor a bite, linger by the fire, or retreat to serene guestrooms overlooking Park Avenue. Every touchpoint was thoughtfully designed to foster comfort, connection and delight.”

The redesign project was led by Busta Studio, which aimed to reinterpret the character of a Park Avenue townhouse through a contemporary lens, layering warm woods, soft palettes and gold accents with custom furnishings and curated art, according to the company.

The midtown hotel’s public areas have been reimagined as a sequence of residential-style spaces, including a foyer, living room and library connected by restored architectural elements, such as columns and oversized wood portals. Artwork from Soho Art Gallery and a collection of Assouline and Taschen books will be featured throughout. Guestrooms will incorporate jade green accents, plush fabrics and bespoke millwork, with many offering views of Park Avenue and the Empire State Building.

The hotel will also introduce Park & Bel, a café concept with baked goods and sandwiches in the morning and small plates and craft beverages in the evening. In line with Kimpton brand traditions, complimentary coffee service and a nightly wine hour will be in the lobby.
