Chicago’s Talbott hotel reopens as part of Autograph Collection

The renovated Talbott hotel in Chicago celebrated its grand reopening as part of Marriott Bonvoy’s Autograph Collection.

The 178-room Talbott hotel—an historic 1927 property in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood—reopened in May following a three-year, multiphase renovation to its guestrooms, public areas and event spaces.

Dallas-based Studio 11 Design was tasked with reimagining The Talbott’s lobby, public spaces and guestrooms while honoring the property’s original architectural character and Georgian Revival style.

“The Talbott has long held a special place in Chicago’s hospitality landscape and it was a privilege for our team to be part of reimagining such a beloved landmark,” Kellie Sirna, owner and principal of Studio 11 Design, said in a statement. “Our approach focused on weaving the property’s rich heritage into a refreshed, modern aesthetic—one that feels both timeless and inviting. Every detail was considered to ensure the soul of The Talbott remained intact, while offering today’s guests a more elevated, memorable experience."

The Design

From its lobby and public spaces to its guestrooms, Studio 11 Design envisioned a holistic reimagination of The Talbott that honors the building’s landmark history, while looking to create a chic, immersive and art-driven retreat for both travelers and guests.

Studio 11 Design approached the redesign of The Talbott’s guestrooms with a focus on calm sophistication and refined detail. Inspired by Chicago’s Gold Coast, the rooms have a soft, neutral palette accented by blush tones and light wood finishes, juxtaposed by bold tactile artwork. The firm used layered materials, curated furnishings and a nuanced color palette for the spaces.

Laurel, The Talbott’s signature restaurant, has a ceiling mural by Lou Verne that draws inspiration from the Mediterranean’s diverse landscapes and artistic heritage, according to the company.
