Wyndham Grand Rio Mar updates guestrooms, public areas

Wyndham Grand Rio Mar Rainforest Beach & Golf Resort in Puerto Rico will debut its fully reimagined resort on December 17 following a major transformation.

Situated between El Yunque National Rainforest and the Atlantic Ocean on 607 acres, the resort’s revitalization represents a significant investment by San Juan, Puerto Rico-based owner/operator LionGrove. The project introduces refreshed dining concepts, three enhanced pool experiences, fully redesigned guestrooms and suites and a new 1950s-inspired casino and sports-betting lounge anchored by The Vault, a speakeasy-style cabaret. The redesign was led by Wimberly Allison Tong & Goo and Jeffrey Beers International.

“Wyndham Grand Rio Mar’s transformation is a celebration of Puerto Rico’s culture and natural beauty, elevated through world-class design and hospitality,” Andro Nodarse-León, founder and CEO of LionGrove, said in a statement. “This reimagination marks a new era for Rio Mar and for luxury travel across the island.”

All 400 guestrooms, including 40 suites, have been updated with palettes and textures inspired by El Yunque. Features include private balconies with ocean or rainforest views, spa-style bathrooms, enhanced lighting, intuitive in-room technology and contemporary furnishings, according to the company.

The redesigned lobby has a brighter, tropical-inspired aesthetic with soaring arches, custom artwork, terracotta accents and a rainforest observation deck. The resort now has five pools, including a new addition and three revitalized areas. Additional recreational amenities include two 18-hole golf courses and a racquet center.

Dining venues have also undergone significant renovation. The resort’s 10 refreshed outlets include Roots Coastal Kitchen, led by executive chef Ramón Carrillo; Palio with Sicilian-inspired cuisine; Caicu with Caribbean bar bites and cocktails; and the new Seabreeze beachfront concept serving casual comfort fare and an interactive ice cream station.

The wellness program has also been updated at El Yunque Spa with treatments informed by Puerto Rican healing traditions and advanced modalities such as a 3D Collagen Lift facial, CBD and muscle recovery therapies and an Anti-Gravity Massage. New daily fitness programming is designed to connect guests with the natural environment.

The resort’s new Xplorers Club offers hands-on programming for children and families, blending education, nature exploration and cultural discovery inspired by Puerto Rico’s ecosystems and heritage.
