LG Electronics USA is expanding the scope of its built-in casting capabilities by rolling out a firmware upgrade that adds Google Cast functionality to earlier-generation Pro:Centric Smart hospitality TVs and set-top boxes.
LG—which previously developed hotel TVs with integrated support for both Google Cast and Apple AirPlay—is highlighting the expanded casting functionality.
“The availability of this new firmware upgrade underscores LG’s ongoing commitment to protect the investment our customers make in LG display technology and solutions,” Jake Benner, senior director of hospitality at LG Electronics USA, said in a statement. “We believe our ability to extend Google Cast functionality to previous-generation hotel TVs is unique and likely to be unmatched by other manufacturers.”
The free firmware upgrade applies to LG’s 2020–2023 webOS 5 Pro:Centric televisions—specifically the US670H, US770H and UR770H series models, along with the STB-6500 smartbox—already deployed in hotels nationwide. This upgrade enables hoteliers to offer guest casting capabilities without adding external devices or replacing existing televisions. The firmware can be deployed by systems integrator partners with minimal effort, no extended downtime and no disruption to guest services, according to the company.
With integrated Google Cast functionality, LG smart hotel TVs allow guests to securely stream content—including movies, videos, music and photos—from their Android or iOS devices directly to the in-room TV.
By scanning a QR code, guests can connect through the app on their device, and select their room number to begin casting, using their personal device as a remote. AirPlay casting support is already available on previous LG webOS 5 and current webOS 23 Pro:Centric smart hotel TV models.
